Self-reflection

I have found that working with a group of pro-active members makes things a lot easier especially as the management leader. Being the management leader, I had to coordinate the communication, documentation, decision making and a bit of the designing in this project. Without this in a group, it would be much harder to function as there would be loose ends everywhere and a lot of issues with miscommunications. Meetings were organized by me at least once a week and group members were encouraged to post on the blog as a form of mutual communication. A lot of problems were dodged because of the constant meeting. Efficiency also comes hand in hand with meeting up constantly and the updating of blog. Group members were aware of time constraints and the need of completion of certain tasks at a certain time. Most of my proof, examples and show of effectiveness can be seen through my blog posts.

Coming out to the increasingly more complex and collaborative professional architectural practice, the skills that have been adapted onto me through this assignment would be of much help although it might be tiresome. It may not seem to be at all in parallel to architectural design but it is the core to any group needing to function properly. Miscommunication and the messiness of documentation is one that gives most people in practice these days the huge amount of frustration, wastage of time and money.

This group has really been a joy to work with and have been extremely positive and time effective with work and progress. They have made my job much easier than it could have been.

Renderings

Beautiful renders Chi Yun!
great work!
I understand you have already done more than 10 renders from many spectacular views.
And we may consider submitting in more than those that are required
for the sake of our passion in this project.
Can't help it, the model is beautiful and so are the renders
Every member of the architectural architects should give themselves a big pat
on their backs for all their hard work put into this project

Just additional comments and advice for further improvements, chi yun

1. Variation of sky and sun light colours
Yeah, so the renders you have produced have very similar atmosphere. We want our renders to express a variation of environments and emotions. So, you could perhaps change the time of day, angle of sun.
I usually tend to use a low angle sun, shining a little at a tangent to where your camera is facing. Creating a dramatic contrast of shadow and light. You could experiment to get the best effects! You could also change the colour of the sun. Purple pink skys for sun sets. Play around with both sky light and sun light in Artlantis for better effects.

Hmmm...here is a challenge..could we make moon light via Atlantis without using photoshop.Montage on a moon on to photoshop?...we can already make such a beautiful sea via artlantis, we would want the out existing sea to be bathe in moon light...Montages of mixing the reality and the unreality together wouldn't be a very aesthetic symmetry, compared to making it purely in a single program. We dun have to make a moon...its just a question.

2.Anti aliasing

I've just discovered that anti aliasing tampers with the texture of our materials. Anti aliasing, i think, is only good happy shinny interiors of all these perfect minimalist things. The right images show the comparison of the anti aliasing effect. Without anti-aliasing while rendering your image, you can see that the texture of the cliff is clearer because the noise and sharpness levels are quite high.

With anit-aliasing in your rendered images(which is usually recomended for a higher quality image) will have a sort of a more fine but blurry effect. Textures are no longer obvious.

Hence, to get the best of both worlds, we could use photoshop to merge the two images. A fine image with the textures still visible. Merge the two images by putting one layer over the other and reduce the capacity of the upper layer to 50%.

3. Do we need to do a major site montage?

a Major site montage? Maybe. The model already looks good on its own, right?.. but we do still need to add people...animals...goats sheeps, beggars, mermaids.

As a role of Interior Designer in the teamwork, my job includes and not limit to the list below:

Stylish Furniture

Justin (creative leader) takes lots of attentions in designing furniture. I corporate with him in realizing those design ideas in Archicad by using complex design tool and so on.

Here are some images to explain how I work with him.

He found some image from internet an also did some hand draft to decorate bath house. The final bath house image come out.

Internal Garden

He designed a floating staircase for planting a internal garden below. This brings a fresh view from entrance and also improves interior air quality. By the way, I change the wall around staircase from solid concrete wall into transparent curtain wall. In this way, light can come into the kitchen and blur the line between interior and exterior.

Reform the floor plan

Rather than a boring three door pathway in original cad model, I delete one of the walls to make a semi-open common area for people chatting.

In addition, I change the shape of door and the surface of floor to indicate difference function of each room.

General Lighting

Basically, I put light sources in model from Archicad library, and Yoon (Presentation Artist) import the model into Artlantis to rend image.

Interior and Exterior Decoration

All above documentations can prove my attribution to the teamwork as a interior designer.
Moreover, I attended every group meeting, discussed problems with team members and sticked to the time schedule to complete the work. In this teamwork project, I learn a lot from others. Everyone has advantages and disadvantages. We learn from others advantages to improve our skills. At same time, we learn the importance of cooperation, the spirit of teamwork. Sometime, when considering someone else also take effort into this project, we work harder than before to make this project as perfect as possible. I valued my contribution to this project. And also i am doing well in this work.

Hey all, this is a follow up from the post "Distribution of Task for Week 12 (+ some model updates and the plan of completion)".
.
So as you all know, submission is tomorrow! Our progress has been excellent so good on you! two weeks ago, we:
1) Finished overall landscaping (AHD, site relocation, site construction etc.)
2) Finished all model structure (model amendments, extentions, new additions etc.)
3) Finished overall interior and exterior detailing (material, element attributes for different parts of house, new additions etc.)
.
Last week we finished up and perfected everything that needed perfecting and changing. We completed all the modelling criterias and amendments and did all the material changes and landscape finishups. Chze Yoon started with the renderings and preperation and layout of the analogue presentation so that was a great headstart.
.
The Distribution of Task for Week 13, this week, is much more relaxed compared to the previous weeks seeing that we have succeded in keeping to the timeline. Tina and Citra would be able to take a breather, and Chze Yoon would need to step in with working on the Analogue and Digital presentations.
.
As you can see from the previous post, renderings are looking good and by today, during our group meeting, we should be able to complete all analogue and digital aspects of this assignment.
.
Plan of Completion:
Week 11
-Continuation of work from Week 10
-Finalising model (3D, 2D)

Week 12
-Rendering and photo editing
-Enhancement of Analogue Presentation
.
Week 13
-Compilation of Digital and Analogue Presentation
-Final check of work and completion of assignment
.
So the aim is to finish up everything by today (Thursday, 4/11/2010) and submit it tomorrow :) If we can't finish it by today, there'll be another meeting tomorrow at 10am. Hope this assignment has been as fun to me as it has been to you!
